The small village Staphel is situated at the southern edge of the lowland to the small lake Wostevitzer See and belongs to the municipality Dubnitz. The village was first mentioned in documents in the 16th century and at that time consisted of three farms. In 1867 the Staphel estate, consisting of two inhabited houses, belonged to the Wostevitz manor. Today Staphel has 14 inhabitants.

Today's hotel was completed in 1972 as a holiday home for the staff of the Lübbenau lignite mine and was at its time a popular holiday destination for workers and their families. After the reunification the object lay for a long time in a Sleeping Beauty sleep and was revived in 2003 as Hotel ``Staphel``.
